What a great array of veterans and new blood!  We thank everyone who worked in so many ways to make this election cycle so productive.  Very special thanks are due to Chris Allport, who put up and maintains the ALT website, and to Andrew Caple-Shaw, who has carried the site personally over the last two years.

Our candidates braved raucus meetings, handed out self-copied flyers, and used their own rolodexes to remind voters how important these times are in the life of AFTRA. Our friends across the country emailed their friends in support.  Pepe Barreto and Mike Sakellarides made identical audio messages - in Spanish and English! - to reach out to the broadcasters in a new media format. Bobbie Bates kept our books and is a campaigner of the first order, as ever. And of course, people with wide circles - like the valiant Keri Tombazian, and the Unite for Strength crew, and our comrades in New York, AftraNOW - kept the issues and the election front and center in members' minds.

We thank our team members who ran but missed getting elected this round.  ALT considers you the "spark plugs" - people who come in off the bench and keep the energy high and positive.  Please know there are myriad ways to use your talents in AFTRA, and we'll make sure to keep you in that loop.  Don't stop now!  Pick an event to attend - there are some great ones coming up - and let us know what committees might interest you.  If you're in the Chicago area this August, come observe the convention.  We hope you find that you're hooked on union service.

Of course, we thank you, the members, for voting.  The turnout totalled 3,262 ballots cast.  Out of an LA membership of about 25,000, that's not great.  So the work still remains: member education, member involvement, and member support.  But we know we're on the right road, and your commitment to taking the step of casting your votes prove it.

So, thanks again for all your hard work. Keep our emails handy, and always let us know if we can help out.  The local is a big place, but easy to navigate and full of great staff folks.  Please call on anyone in the Executive Committee at any time - that's what we're here for.  Watch this site for news, blogs, and links that will keep you informed.  And welcome to AFTRA leadership!

In solidarity,

Your AFTRA Leadership Team

The AFTRA Leadership Team is made up of candidates representing all ages, races, genders, categories and levels of experience. As a group, we are bound by two common threads: we are working performers who bring our in-studio and on-set experience into the boardroom, and we are hard-working, critical thinking policy-makers committed to putting in the time and effort it takes to find innovative solutions in a changing industry.

These are tough times for labor.  Now more than ever we need working people to shape our union's destiny.  Our future depends on it.  We plan on making it a good one — for all of us.

THE
AFTRA LEADERSHIP TEAM

IS THERE FOR YOU
AFTRA is the only union that represents ALL PERFORMERS IN ALL MEDIA.
