Last year, The Team made a check list of goals for the coming year.
How did we do?



1. Improve member services and contract enforcement —

Current workshops: Demo Reels Demystified, "My Agent Isn't Getting Me Work…and Other Misconceptions", Scene Study Class, Personal Healing/Performance Mastery, Sight Singing Classes, Women's Committee events, Seasoned Readings
Home meetings - we bring members and staff to you, keeping you informed on contract issues that directly affect your category of work
Regular set visits with cast members so working performers can air their concerns on the job


2. Successful negotiations of 6 major contracts

3. Organize new work

Over 70 new AFTRA television pilots this season at the 3.5% increased Prime Time rates
Unprecedented job growth for AFTRA freelancers
The first digital television union agreements with KABC, signed with LA AFTRA


4. Work for legislation that benefits all AFTRA members

New non-compete regulations passed
Performance Rights in Sound Recordings/Music First Coalition
New plans for health care reform in process
New tax incentives to keep work at home
Ongoing work on the front lines to pass the Employee Free Choice Act


5. Continue working closely with our sister unions

AFTRA's commitment to Phase One to Merger resulted in unanimous support for the AFTRA/SAG Commercials Deal
AFTRA has a formal strategic alliance with IATSE
AFTRA has continuing close ties with AEA
AFTRA's alliance with DGA provided invaluable research that got us solid gains in Prime Time and Network Code deals


6. Strengthen bonds with every sector of the Labor Movement

AFTRA is now a chartered member of the AFL-CIO, and National President Roberta Reardon attends the Executive Council meetings.
LA President Ron Morgan is also a Vice-Pesident of the LA County Federation of Labor.


7. To keep involving AFTRA stars in Union Activities

High profile members, many dual card holders, are serving on important committees, endorsing our public affairs initiatives and we continue to reach out to them in every way possible to grow the AFTRA brand.


8. To revive Equal Employment Opportunity work, leadership
— √ CHECK

ALT leaders Jason George and Milo Edwards are the new Co-Chairs of EEO. They and former chair Raza Burgee revitalized the committee.
